Blues Review

The irrepressible bluesman Taj Mahal is among those chiefly responsible for establishing the blues as the world’s music — his 40-year-long ambassadorship has taken him around the globe, and he’s made a point of illustrating the roots of the music in Africa and beyond, as well as incorporating touches of far-flung folk idioms into the bedrock of his Delta-flavored concoctions.
Taj’s latest, Hanapepe Dream (Tone-Cool), reteams him with the Hawaiian group Hula Blues for Polynesian-accented takes on songs as far afield as the standard “Stagger Lee” and Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower.”
But when he comes to Scullers,8/8/03 he’ll be bringing the Taj Mahal Trio- drummer Kester Smith and bassist Bill Rich, the rhythm section that’s supported him on and off for more than 30 years. For complete listing of Trio Touring schedule, tickets and show times Click Here
